HISTORY
The Medical Association of Thailand was founded in 1921 from an idea of 10 doctors
who believed that the nation could not thrive if the health of the people was
poor. These ten founders, comprising 8 Thai professional disuitaries, an American
and a French, helped to establish the Association. It was granted Royal Patronage
in 1930. At present, it has about 4,500 members.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Association are to promote the medical profession, medical
brotherhood and upgrade knowledge and practise of medicine.
PUBLICATIONS
There are three publications of the Medical Association of Thailand. They are:
- The
Journal of the Medical Association of Thailand. This is the official Journal published
in English and was first launched in 1929.

and abstracts of the annual meetings of the Medical Association of Thailand in
the provinces.
- A

The President and/or Secretary-general have been appointed by the Ministry of

laws. This committee will update the laws on the services of the medical profession
especially on medical practice ethics etc. in order to prevent medical malpractice
and to help the people.
In 1995, the Association cooperated with the Government
Organisation (GOS) and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOS) to arrange a Medical
Mobile unit to give medical care to the public.
