OBJECTIVES
The
objectives of the Vietnam General Association
of Medicine and Pharmacy (VNGAMP)
are:
1.
To promote the promote Vietnamese medicine in 3 fields: scientific, national and
popular.
2.
To maintain the honour and interest of the medical profession in Vietnam and to
uphold high standards of medical ethics and conduct.
3.
To voice its opinions to the Ministry of Health about the policies and attitudes
of the profession.
4.
To publish papers, journals, reviews and other material in furtherance of the
above objectives.
ACTIVITIES
1. Scientific
and technical activities:
During the initial years, these activities comprised mainly lectures and
seminars on various medical subjects. Since 1985, national and international seminars
and symposia were organised and exchange of medical books and articles took place.
The VNGAMP also organised various medical research programmes such as:
- evaluation
of nine formulae of traditional drugs
- programme
for cancer prevention (especially hepatic, lung, cervical and nasopharyngeal carcinoma)
VNGAMP
has a committee for the re-organisation of the medical and pharmaceutical parts
of the Vietnamese Encyclopaedia.
2. Publications
VNGAMP
now publishes 8 national medical reviews. They are as follows:

These
reviews feature the results of medical research in various fields of medicine.
3. International
relations
Prior to 1975, VNGAMP participated in the International Association for the Prevention
of Tuberculosis and had exchanges with the Federation of Democratic Medical Organisation
of the Japanese Communist Party.
After
the liberation of South Vietnam, international relations of the VNGAMP became
more frequent and extensive. VNGAMP was admitted as an associate member of MASEAN
during the 7th MASEAN Conference held in Singapore in April 1995. It became a
full member in July 1995 when Vietnam became a member of ASEAN.
VNGAMP also
has regular links with the Chinese Medical Association and non-governmental organisations
of various countries.

The
VNGAMP comprises 45 regional associations in various provinces. 30 medical-related
associations are affiliated to the VNGAMP.
